Chart of the Cape of Good Hope (c.1812)
R12,500 By Aaron Arrowsmith (1750-1823) an English cartographer, engraver, publisher and founding member of the Arrowsmith family of geographers. He became hydrographer to the Prince of Wales c.1810 and subsequently to the King in 1820.

The "White Monday Disaster" refers to a significant 1773 event in the Cape of Good Hope where a ship wrecked, leading to the heroic but tragic rescue attempt by Wolraad Woltemade, who repeatedly rode his horse into the stormy sea to save lives, ultimately dying with the horse and passengers; it's famously depicted in Cecil Skotnes' linocuts with poems by Stephen Gray, documenting this historical tragedy. Launch of the HMS Prince of Wales c.1902
R3,000 Pen and watercolour by E. Milton Small? HMS Prince of Wales was a London-class pre-dreadnought battleship built for the Royal Navy in the first decade of the 20th century. She was one of two ships of the London or Queen sub-class. Shortly after completion the ship was assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet and then to the Atlantic in 1909 and Home Fleets three years later. Maritz Rebellion Poster (1915)
R2,500 1914-1915 Geslachts Register' or Family Register. This poster commemorates what is otherwise known as The Maritz Rebellion. This was an armed pro-German insurrection in South Africa in 1914, at the start of World War I. It was led by Boers who supported the re-establishment of the South African Republic in the Transvaal (hence the Z.A.R. coat of arms). By Vakalisa Art Associates The Vakalisa Art Association was founded in 1982. It was a network of Black cultural workers that operated in the Western Cape. James Matthews, a well renown poet, writer and publisher, was a founding member of Vakalisa, along with Peter Edward Clarke, another well known artist. The organisation consisted of artists such as Patrick Holo, Sydney Holo, Michael Barry, Rashid Lombard and Lionel Davis, among others. 1986 State of Emergency

Printed by City Press on 12 June 1986 Four days before the 10th Anniversary of the Soweto Uprising – the government declared a country-wide State of Emergency. The crackdown differed from the 1985 Emergency in that it covered the entire national space and was more rigorous: political funerals were restricted, curfews were imposed, certain indoor gatherings were banned and news crews with television cameras were banned from filming in areas where there was political unrest. An estimated 26,000 people were detained between June 1986 and June 1987.
