The Ancient World in Two Hemispheres (Atlantis) c.1752

Hand coloured copperplate engraving by Robert de Vaugondy (c.1723-1786)

The Western Hemisphere is designated as “Atlantis Insula.”

The Latin text in the lower cartouche translates to “MONITUM (a warning): Lest anyone be surprised, if he sees in this map of the whole world the island of Atlantis facing our America, we have considered that he should be advised that we have done this deliberately, since in the past only the more celebrated geographers have restored this to antiquity, but also the most learned men have thought that this island once existed.”

Some minor restoration and tears.

The Beatles Yellow Submarine Movie Poster

1968. Published in London. Offset litho printing.
By Heinz Edelmann (1934-2009).

This animated musical fantasy was inspired by the song Yellow Submarine by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The animation features songs by The Beatles, who appear as animated characters in the film, voiced by other actors until the final scene. 

This poster has been restored and is very fragile. Some tears and cracks. 106cm 76.5cm framed.
This poster cannot be taken out of the frame and rolled.

c. 1892. Signed by State President Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger (10 October 1825–14 July 1904). Kruger was the president of the South African Republic (1846-1902).

Paulpietersburg (Zulu: eDumbe) is a small town in KZN, South Africa. It was established in 1888 and was then part of the Transvaal Republic.
It was named after then President Paul Kruger and Voortrekker hero Piet Joubert. The town is 72 km south of Piet Retief and 151 km north-east of Dundee.

Print, limited to 500 copies. Signed by Wopko Jensma (b.1939-?)
Jensma was a South African artist, poet and anti-apartheid activist who had a banning order placed on him by the National Party. As a result of this he was unable to earn a living. In 1993 he was last seen living in the Men’s hostel of the Johannesburg salvation army.

Free the Cuban Five Rally Poster
2010

The Wasp Network is a 2019 spy thriller film written and directed by Olivier Assayas, based on the book The Last Soldiers of the Cold War by Fernando Morais. It tells the true story of Cuban spies in American territory during the 1990s; The Cuban Five.

Cuban intelligence officers Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González were arrested in September 1998 and later convicted in Miami of conspiracy to commit espionage, conspiracy to commit murder, acting as an agent of a foreign government, and other illegal activities in the United States.

In 2010 the SACP held a rally in Johannesburg in support of the Cuban Five.

Lunch With Peter Randall (1935 - 2024)

Earlier this year, I invited the Randalls for lunch at the Rand Club. I have known the family since my primary school days. It was such a privilege to spend this time with Peter before he passed away on the 5 June 2024.
I wrote this story in memory of Peter, a man I greatly admired and respected.
