Elisabeth Françoise Eybers (1915 – 2007) was a South African poet. Her poetry was mainly in Afrikaans, although she translated some of her own work (and those of others) into English.
Counted among the so-called Dertigers, she became the first Afrikaans woman to win the Hertzog Prize for poetry in 1943. She won the prize again in 1971. Eybers remains the only non-Dutch writer to be awarded the PC Hooft Prize for Dutch Literature in 1991.
Her daughter, Elisabeth Bradley (Lisbeth) is a co-founder and former chairman of Strauss & Co Fine Art Auctioneers, South Africa’s leading fine art auction house. She established the company in 2008/2009 alongside prominent figures Dr Conrad Strauss and art expert Stephan Welz.
