Ernest Ullmann (1900 - 1975) was a South African designer, painter and sculptor. He received his art education in Munich, Berlin , Italy and France. From 1920 to 1927 he was art editor of the Russische Post and then spent 8 years as a designer in Berlin .

He was already an established artist when he moved to South Africa in 1935. He settled in Johannesburg, where he quickly became a well-known artist. From 1938 to 1945 he was art editor of The Forum .

Ernest Ullmann carried out several important commissions, including tapestries for the South African embassy in Paris , murals and sculptures in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria , and designed the exhibition pavilion for the Van Riebeeck Festival ( 1952 ). He exhibited in Munich, Berlin , Wiesbaden , Paris, London , Geneva , at the Van Riebeeck Festival in Cape Town (1952), the Rhodes Centenary in Bulawayo ( 1953 ) and the Republic Festival ( 1966 ) in Pretoria, among others. He died in 1975.
