Villa at 90: His Life, Work and Influence (2005)

A comprehensive monograph and tribute published to celebrate the 90th birthday of Edoardo Villa (1915–2011), one of South Africa's most prominent and respected sculptors.
Edited by Karel Nel and published by Jonathan Ball Publishers in Johannesburg, the book serves as a visual and scholarly document of Villa’s artistic evolution over six decades.

It features essays by notable art historians and critics, including Esmé Berman, Alan Crump, and Karin Skawran, which explore Villa's unique fusion of European modernist training and African cultural influences. The volume is lavishly illustrated with contemporary photography by Mario Todeschini and historical images from the gallery of Egon Guenther. The narrative follows Villa’s journey from his early life in Bergamo, Italy, to his arrival in South Africa as a prisoner of war during WWII, and through to his landmark 2005 exhibition at Lanzerac.
