Lord Randolph Henry Spencer-Churchill, father of Winston Churchill, was a British aristocrat and politician. In 1885 he became Secretary of State for India, and in 1886 was named Chancellor of the Exchequer.

In 1891, Lord Churchill travelled to South Africa at the invitation of Sir Henry Loch and Cecil Rhodes, respectively Governor and Prime Minister of the Cape Colony at the time. He travelled for some months through the Cape Colony, the Transvaal and Rhodesia, hunting and making notes on the politics and economics of the countries. He toured the diamond and gold mines in Kimberly and Johannesburg, and spent some time shooting in Mashonaland.

He recorded his impressions in letters to a London newspaper, which were later republished under the title of Men, Mines and Animals in South Africa.

In very good condition; front cover corners bent and some wear on top and bottom of spine.
