A two-volume travelogue and scientific account by Swedish explorer Sven Hedin, detailing his extensive and challenging expedition through Central Asia and Tibet from 1899 to 1902.

The book recounts Hedin's journey, which began in Stockholm and ended in Beijing, covering over six thousand miles of largely uncharted territory. He navigated rivers, crossed desolate deserts and high mountain passes, and faced extreme weather conditions and political obstacles. A primary goal of the expedition was to explore and map the geography of Central Asia and contribute to the scientific understanding of the region, which he achieved through meticulous mapping, geological sampling, and detailed observations.
