The Diary of an Elephant Hunter

By Diocleciano Fernandes Das Neves (1829 - 1883) a Portuguese hunter, explorer, adventurer and trader. He emigrated to Mozambique in 1855 to become a Customs officer in Lourenço Marques and 3 years later became an elephant hunter and ivory trader. He hired a group of trackers and porters went into the then, unknown Mozambique hinterland. This expedition was not a great financial success so in 1860 he went west to the Transvaal to hunt.
