Blue Book – Despatches: Eastern Cape Frontier War 1878
Published in 1878.
Possibly ex libris ship owner Donald Currie.
The 1878 event was likely the Ninth Frontier War (1877–1878), the final conflict in a series of nine wars fought between the Cape colonists and the Xhosa peoples between 1779 and 1878.
This protracted conflict was primarily driven by colonial expansion, which led to dispossession of Xhosa land and cattle. The war resulted in the Gcalekaland and other remaining Xhosa territories being annexed by the British and incorporated into the Cape Colony, effectively ending Xhosa sovereignty.
