Wendy Vincent is a celebrated South African master painter and printmaker, distinguished as a pioneer in the field of stone and lithography within the country. Her artistic journey began in her childhood on a farm, where she developed a profound connection with nature, drawing and planting from the age of ten. This lifelong passion is the central theme of her paintings.

Educated between 1958 and 1971 at the Durban and Witwatersrand Technikons, Vincent later continued her training in the international art hubs of New York and Paris. Her work has achieved global recognition, with exhibitions across South Africa, Europe, Australia, and the UK. In the United States, her art is part of significant public collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, and the South African Embassy Collection in Washington, D.C. Her importance in the national canon is cemented by her inclusion in seminal publications like Esmé Berman’s Art and the Artists of South Africa.

For the past two and a half decades, Vincent has largely retreated from the public art scene. In a creative partnership with her life partner, artist Geoffrey Armstrong, she has dedicated herself to another form of artmaking: the creation of a sprawling indigenous rock garden, continuing to work with the natural world that has always inspired her.
