The Northern Goldfields Diaries of Thomas Baines (1946)

A three-volume set published in 1946 that documents the journeys of artist and explorer Thomas Baines into Southern Rhodesia (modern-day Zimbabwe) between 1869 and 1872. Edited by J.P.R. Wallis, the work was published by Chatto & Windus as the third installment of the Oppenheimer Series for the Government Archives of Southern Rhodesia.

Volume I: Covers the "First Journey" from April 1869 to February 1870.
Volume II: Continues the "First Journey" from February 1870 to January 1871.
Volume III: Documents the "Second Journey" and the South African Gold Fields Exploration Company's expedition from May 1871 to March 1872.

(John) Thomas Baines (27 November 1820 – 8 May 1875) was an English artist and explorer of British colonial southern Africa and Australia. Baines is today best known for his detailed paintings and sketches which give a unique insight into colonial life in southern Africa and Australia.
