Circulaire / Zuid-Afrikaan / Den 13 MEI 1833
This document is an original 1833 Dutch printed circular (Circulaire) issued in Cape Town by De Zuid-Afrikaan, one of South Africa's most prominent early newspapers.

Ik heb de Eer te zyn, Wel-Edele Heer, UEd. Dw. Dienaar, P. A. BRAND.
(I have the honor to be, Honourable Sir, Your Obedient Servant, P. A. BRAND.)
P. A. Brand & Early Cape Publishing: Petrus Johannes Denyssen Brand (P. A. Brand) served as proprietor, printer, and editor of De Zuid-Afrikaan during the 1830s. He was the brother of Sir Christoffel Brand (the paper's founding mind and first Speaker of the Cape House of Assembly).
Shareholder Governance (Geldvoorschieters): De Zuid-Afrikaan was established in 1830 as a joint-stock enterprise backed by Dutch-Afrikaner colonists at the Cape. Because it operated under a formal constitution (Acte), major administrative actions—such as admitting new financial backers/shareholders—required a formal ballot (ballotteeren) by existing members.
Fascinating Moment in Cape History: Dated 13 May 1833, this notice sits directly on the eve of major historical shifts in the Cape Colony, including the British Imperial Slavery Abolition Act passed later that same year, a period when De Zuid-Afrikaan served as the primary conservative voice of the Dutch colonial community.
