Index British South Africa 1897 (Jameson Raid)

Ordered, by The House of Commons, to be printed, 13 July 1897.

The Jameson Raid (1895–1896) was not part of the Second Boer War (1899–1902), but it was a critical, failed precursor that directly caused the war. Led by Leander Starr Jameson, this raid failed to trigger an uprising to overthrow the Transvaal government, instead fueling the tensions that initiated the 1899 conflict.
