Union Trades Directory (1953–1954)

This copy of the Union Trades Directory (1953–1954) features a commercial ink provenance stamp from the Hotel Mecklenburger-Hof in Omaruru, South-West Africa (now Namibia), owned at the time by Ein. A. Goetz.

Colonial Namibian Heritage: The Mecklenburger-Hof was a well-known German-colonial style hotel in Omaruru during the mid-20th century, serving as a key social hub and stopover in the region.

Pan-African Scope: Despite being published in Durban (Berea Road) and printed by Caxton in Pretoria, the directory covered an expansive economic footprint including South-West Africa, the Rhodesias, Portuguese East Africa (Mozambique), Belgian Congo, Kenya, and Tanganyika.

Preserved Business Provenance: Directories like this were working desk tools for hospitality establishments, used to source suppliers, handle international postal/telegraph communications, and connect regional commerce prior to modern telecommunications.
