HNP poster: Vir Blanke Baasskap oor Blank SA (1981)
Silkscreen.
This poster, is a historical political artifact from the 29 April 1981 South African parliamentary general elections. It was produced by the Herstigte Nasionale Party (HNP), a far-right political group.
The poster reflects the party's opposition to government reforms of the time:
"Vir Blanke Baasskap oor Blank SA": For White Supremacy (or Mastery) over White South Africa.
"Verwerp Vorster se Magsdeling met Nieblanke": Reject [John] Vorster’s power-sharing with non-whites.
"Stem HNP": Vote HNP.
Historical Context
The poster was a response to the reforms initiated by President John Vorster. Right-wing groups like the HNP viewed his actions—such as not recognizing Rhodesia as a sovereign state and granting concessions to certain black African diplomats—as a threat to the integrity of Apartheid.
Signed by Piet "Skiet" Rudolph.
Piet Rudolph was a former Pretoria city councillor and member of the HNP, Conservative Party, and AWB. He later claimed responsibility for bombing Melrose House in 1990 and was involved in the "Siege of Ventersdorp," for which he was granted amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
