Sinclair Beiles (1930–2000) was born in Uganda and raised in Johannesburg. He worked as an editor under Maurice Girodias at the Olympia Press in Paris, and for a time stayed at the infamous Beat Hotel alongside Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Brion Gysin, William S. Burroughs and other Beat pioneers.

He collaborated with Burroughs and Gysin in early experiments with the cut-up technique of writing poetry and literature, and co-authored Minutes to Go with Burroughs, Gysin and Corso. He also assisted Burroughs in editing and publishing his notorious novel, Naked Lunch.

Beiles eventually returned to South Africa where he became associated with the Johannesburg-based “Gallery III” group of poets, writers, composers and performance artists.

He married the poet Marta Proctor and they lived together in Yeoville, Johannesburg. He died in Johannesburg General Hospital on 3 November 2000 at the age of 70, and was buried at West Park Cemetery.
