Commercial Opportunism on the Cover: The front wrapper features a large advertisement for Cuthbert's Boots and Shoes, declaring that "Burgher's and Uitlanders fight to get Cuthbert's..." and claiming "Even Dr. Jameson and his Men were coming for Cuthbert and Co.'s BOOTs and SHOES". Capitalizing on the dramatic news of the raid to market footwear highlights the commercial environment of boomtown Johannesburg in 1896.

Intensely Polemical Tone: The opening text pulls no punches, framing Jameson's actions as a defense against Boer hostility while accusing Boer settlers of atrocities during earlier border disputes.
